Guatemala City is generally safe to travel, as long as you apply basic safety measures and increase your situational awareness.  Opportunistic criminals pose a concern for foreign travelers especially during the evening hours.  If you are not familiar with the city, it is important to identify the dangerous sections.  Traveling alone will significantly increase the risk and should be avoided.
