Travel by road through Guatemala can be dangerous for several reasons.  Firstly, there is a high rate of crime involving kidnappings and car-jackings, secondly, road traffic accidents happen frequently. If you are unfamiliar with the environment and local driving behavior you are increasing the risk to your personal security.
